Eldest son of Japheth, and father of Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. Gomer is supposed to be the progenitor of the early Cimmerians who occupied the Tauric Chersonese, of which the name of the
Crimea
is a relic. In the 7th century they devastated the western part of Asia Minor (
Gen. 10:2-3
