 the apostle is not speaking of justification before God, through atonement for sins, but of justification visible to men. (The Proof of Faith: James 2 by H. Smith)
 When Abraham believed God on that starry night, he believed that He was going to raise in a living child from dead parents. How could he have so believed except he had believed that God was able to raise the dead to life? And what did his offering of Isaac show? It showed that he really did believe in God, just in that way. (James 2 by F.B. Hole)
