Precise, positive and absolute distinction between all that has been made and Jesus. If anything has been made, it is not the Word; for all that has been made was made by that Word. (John 1 by J.N. Darby)
Even Gen. 1., though it points in verses 1 and 2 to states of creation indefinitely anterior to Adam, only begins with John 1:3….What was before creation is wholly omitted by Moses. John 1:1-2 shows us eternity before creation, as well as creation itself (verse 3), in the most precise terms. (John 1 by W. Kelly)
The Word is the Creator of all that has had a derived being. He created all. No creature received being apart from Him…..He not been “in the beginning with God,” it could not have been in any special way attributed to Him, the eternal Word. (John 1 by W. Kelly)

J. N. Darby Translation

3
All things received being through him, and without him not one thing received being which has received being.

W. Kelly Translation

+
3
All things were made bya him, and without him not one thing was made which hath been madeb.

WK Translation Notes

+
a
Some revisers prefer "through" to "by" in vss. 3, 10, 17; and perhaps it might be well thus to discriminate "through" (dia) from "in" (en) which is often better rendered "by" than "in."
b
I unqualifiedly decide for a colon or full stop after "hath been made," and begin a new sentence with "In him was life." There is an intended contradistinction between what was made or brought into being through the Word with life in Him. which is lost when the new sentence begins with "has been made."
