 In chapter 5 Jesus is the Son of God who, with the Father, gives life, and as Son of Man judges. In chapter 6 He is the object of faith, as come down from heaven and dying. He just alludes to His going on high as Son of Man. (John 5 by J.N. Darby)
 The doctrine of the chapter is that which goes before. It is not the divine power that quickens, but the Son of Man come in flesh, the object of faith, and so the means of life. (John 6 by J.N. Darby)
 Christ, incarnate and in death, the food of eternal life for those who believe on His name. Here {ch.6} it is the Son of Man humbled and ascended, as in chapter 5 the Son of God quickening those that hear, and by and by as Son of Man about to judge those that believe not. (John 6 by W. Kelly)
