L. H. H.

L. H. H. served about twelve months in the Royal Army Medical Corps, and was killed while on active service in the firing-line in France, aged nineteen.
A comrade wrote of him: “I am deeply grieved to have lost his always inspiring presence with us out here, and in this all the fellows agree, for L — was always true to his beliefs” when amongst us.
His father writes: ―
“The knowledge (common to all who came in contact with him) that his life was a constant prayer, and lived with absolute faithfulness to our Lord, helps us to say, with true hearts, ‘Thy will be done,’ and to bear the sorrow.”
I can only give an extract here, from want of space, of the last address this godly young soldier gave before he left England. His closing words were: —
“Fellow-Christians, let us endeavor to prove the promise of the Scriptures and enjoy this perfect peace, even at such a time of warfare and suffering as the present. ‘For if in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving our requests are made known to God, His peace, which passeth all understanding, shall keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.’ (Phil. 4:6, 76Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6‑7)).
“Unbeliever, I would beseech you to weigh up this matter to-night. You may decide for Christ now. If you are miserable and unhappy, you may have eternal salvation, eternal happiness, eternal peace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and His atoning sacrifice. Repent of your sins and trust in Him, and most surely you, too, shall know and enjoy His perfect peace.”―
