One of the things that the Lord hates is lying. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossian assembly that the saints should not lie. Why would this warning be necessary? Because one of the first sins that you commit is to lie - to get yourself out of trouble. And it’s a sin that is very easy to commit. “Did you do this?” “No!” But, in fact, you did. The Lord expects us to be scrupulously honest in everything. This includes not living a lie and pretending to be something or somebody that you aren’t. A Christian should be “readable” to others, someone who is always truthful.
