 Life here would seem to be that generally spoken of under the Jewish dispensation, though doubtless in the mind of God it had a fuller and deeper meaning, which could not then be explained, since life and incorruptibility were to be brought to light by the gospel. Peace could have but one signification—peace with Him who had put “Levi” into the office, not in the divine sense in which it is now enjoyed through the blood of Christ, but still peace.
