This name occurs in connection with Babylon, and is supposed to be a symbolical name, signifying “visitation” or “punishment,” associated with the name of Merathaim, signifying “of the rebels,” or “double rebellion.” That is, that Babylon should be visited by God “because of its rebellion” (
Jer. 50:21

Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the Lord, and do according to all that I have commanded thee. (Jeremiah 50:21)

Ezekiel 23:23

The Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding upon horses. (Ezekiel 23:23)
Pekod appears more as a proper name; but it is again associated with Babylon, and the three names Pekod, Shoa, and Koa are all judged to be symbolical names.
