An important Judahite family (1 Chron. 27:23²³But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the Lord had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens. (Nehemiah 11:4‑6)) A twin son of Judah by Tamar (Gen. 38:29²⁹And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez. One whose “children” were in David’s army (1 Chron. 27:3³Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month. (1 Chronicles 27:3)). His descendants returned from exile (Neh. 11:4,6⁴And at Jerusalem dwelt certain of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Perez; (Nehemiah 11:4)
