Isa. 53:10‑12• 10Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath subjected him to suffering. When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see a seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.
11He shall see of the fruit of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant instruct many in righteousness; and *he* shall bear their iniquities.
12Therefore will I assign him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong: because he hath poured out his soul unto death, and was reckoned with the transgressors; and he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Dan. 9:24• 24Seventy weeks are apportioned out upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to close the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make expiation for iniquity, and to bring in the righteousness of the ages, and to seal the vision and prophet, and to anoint the holy of holies. Rev. 7:9‑17• 9After these things I saw, and lo, a great crowd, which no one could number, out of every nation and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palm branches in their hands.
10And they cry with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb.
11And all the angels stood around the throne, and the elders, and the four living creatures, and fell before the throne upon their faces, and worshipped God,
12saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and strength, to our God, to the ages of ages. Amen.
13And one of the elders answered, saying to me, These who are clothed with white robes, who are they, and whence came they?
14And I said to him, My lord, *thou* knowest. And he said to me, These are they who come out of the great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
15Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple, and he that sits upon the throne shall spread his tabernacle over them.
16They shall not hunger any more, neither shall they thirst any more, nor shall the sun at all fall on them, nor any burning heat;
17because the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall shepherd them, and shall lead them to fountains of waters of life, and God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes.
(Rev. 7:9‑17)
It is said “all,” when the scope of the action is spoken of; “the many,” when it is the definitive effect with regard to men; that is, the “many” who were in connection with him who accomplished the act. (Romans 5:12-21 by J.N. Darby)
Hence, in being "constituted righteous," those who believe do not become instantly righteous in a practical sense, but rather that God appoints them as righteous by placing them in Christ's race under Christ's headship. (In the Greek, the verb "constituted" is used in the future tense to indicate that it includes all future generations of believers in the race.) (The Doctrine of DeliveranceFrom Sin: Romans 5:12-7:6 by B. Anstey)

J. N. Darby Translation

+
19
For as indeed by the disobedience of the one man the many have been constituted sinners, so also by the obedience of the one the many will be constituted righteous.

W. Kelly Translation

+
19
For as by the disobedience of the one man the manya were constituted sinners, so also by the obedience of the one the many shall be constituted righteous.

WK Translation Notes

a
All men were not left in their ruin, nor were all, in result, delivered through Christ. Hence the change from "all" (ver. 18) to "the many," for it is mere ignorance to take them as equipollent. In certain circumstances they may mean the same persons, but the terms are invariably distinct in themselves. Thus, in verse 18, where "all" occurs, we have the universal aspect of the act, whether of Adam or of Christ; but in verse 19, where the positive application is treated of, we get "the many" who are in fact affected thereby.
