1. Symbolical name given to Jerusalem (Psa. 76:2²In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion. (Psalm 76:2)).

2. Probably the title of Melchisedec as king of peace (Gen. 14:18¹⁸And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. (Genesis 14:18); Heb. 7:1- 2¹For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; ²To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; (Hebrews 7:1‑2)). Various cities, however, have been suggested. Some consider that Jerusalem is alluded to; Jerome was convinced that a town near Scythopolis, named Salem, was the true place; but others judge it to be a title.
