22*. Thou Holy One and True

S.M.
by A.P. Cecil
1
Thou holy One and true,

Our hearts in Thee confide,

And in the circle of Thy love,

As brethren we abide.
2
In Thee the Father rests,

His own anointed One,

In Thee alone He finds delight,

His well-belovèd Son.
3
In Thee we find delight,

Firstborn ’mongst brethren Thou;

To Thy dear name alone we cling,

To Thy sure Word we bow.
4
Teach us that name to own,

Whilst waiting, Lord, for Thee;

Unholiness and sin to shun,

From all untruth to flee.
“And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.” (Luke 12:36)
“I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.” (Revelation 3:8)
“And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thessalonians 1:10)
“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” (2 Timothy 2:16)
“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.” (1 Timothy 6:11)
