22*. Thou Holy One and True

S.M.
by A.P. Cecil
1
Thou holy One and true,

Our hearts in Thee confide,

And in the circle of Thy love,

As brethren we abide.
“For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” (Psalm 16:10)
“And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.” (Matthew 22:16)
“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous.” (1 Peter 3:8)
2
In Thee the Father rests,

His own anointed One,

In Thee alone He finds delight,

His well-belovèd Son.
“And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)
3
In Thee we find delight,

Firstborn ’mongst brethren Thou;

To Thy dear name alone we cling,

To Thy sure Word we bow.
4
Teach us that name to own,

Whilst waiting, Lord, for Thee;

Unholiness and sin to shun,

From all untruth to flee.
