Salix Babylonica

Supposed to be the Salix Babylonica. Its boughs were used at the Feast of Tabernacles, a season of joy; but at the captivity and since, it is a symbol of sorrow. It was on such that the captives hung their harps when in captivity, of which the Psalmist spoke prophetically (Lev. 23:40⁴⁰And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God seven days. (Leviticus 23:40); Job 40:22²²The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about. (Job 40:22); Psa. 137:2²We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. (Psalm 137:2); Isa. 15:7⁷Therefore the abundance they have gotten, and that which they have laid up, shall they carry away to the brook of the willows. (Isaiah 15:7); Isa. 44:4⁴And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses. (Isaiah 44:4)). In Ezekiel 17:5⁵He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree. (Ezekiel 17:5) thy word is tsaphtsaphah, supposed by some to be the Arabic safsaf, a willow or osier which grows by the water.
