There are some people which at first appear to be so friendly and congenial. They are very skillful articulators in their speech. But upon further and closer observation, you find they are only clever manipulators of words and emotions. Is your friend, who seems so interested in you, a skillful articulator, seeking to spiritually help and edify you? Or is he (she) really an artful manipulator seeking to control you? Be very careful of smooth talkers. See how Saul manipulated a woman in 1 Samuel 28. See how Jonadab manipulated Amnon, who in turn deceived his father David and seduced his sister Tamar in 2 Samuel 13. Then read Proverbs 20:5⁵Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out. (Proverbs 20:5).
