Haste

“Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him” (Proverbs 29:20).

“Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few” (Ecclesiastes 5:2).

Here is a short piece of poetry I came across the other day. I am not sure who the author is, but it brought to mind the above verses of Scripture, penned by Solomon, that wise king of Israel.

Whatever you write,

Though in haste or with heed,

Write nothing you would not

Like Jesus to read;

Whatever you say,

In a whisper or clear,

Say nothing you would not

Like Jesus to hear.

Something to really think about, isn’t it?
