“They that hate Me without a cause are more than the hairs of Mine head: they that would destroy Me, being Mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away” (Psalm 69:4).
When the Lord Jesus suffered on the cross, He felt it keenly that so many hated Him—more than the hairs of His head. Do you realize that there are more than 100,000 hairs on the heads of younger people? All these people wanted to destroy the Lord Jesus, just because they did not like Him. Why did they not like Him? It was because He told them that they were sinners before God, and could not get eternal life by their own efforts.
But in spite of all this hatred, the Lord Jesus willingly went to the cross, and our verse tells us that He “restored that which [He] took not away.” It was man that had sinned and brought sorrow, pain and death into this world, but it was the Lord Jesus who suffered for sin, and made a way for men and women to be saved from all this. In fact, His work on the cross gave man much more than he had before sin came into this world. As a result of what the Lord Jesus did, we will spend eternity with Him in heaven, and eventually sin and all its sad effects will be totally removed from this entire universe. The restoration will be complete, and more than complete!
