“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth” (Ecclesiastes 12:1).
When I was in high school (way back in the early 1960s!) we were shown some movies that had been made in the USA in the 1940s to instruct the soldiers going off to fight in WW2, as to what and why they were fighting. I found those same documentaries on YouTube recently and found I had remembered them correctly. The countries with whom the Western nations (Britain, France, the USA, Canada, etc.) were at war at that time were training very young people. Right from the time they were children they were taught the values of their country and their army, so that when it came time to put on a uniform, they would be more than ready to fight.
This was a poor thing to be training youths to do, yet our verse today shows us that at an early age we are like a sponge. We soak up what we are taught, especially if it comes from those we look up to. It is wonderful if you are being brought up in a Christian home, where all that surrounds you has the context of the love of God, and His claims on us. Be thankful that your life is rooted in the Scriptures, and appreciate this immense privilege.
