Empty

“And none shall appear before Me empty”
(Exodus 34:20).

Have you ever felt spiritually empty on the first day of the week? Have you ever felt just as if you had nothing to offer to the Lord in the way of praise, and worship? Many times I have felt this way myself, and here is the reason why. Praise and worship are the result of a heart overflowing with an appreciation of the person and work of Christ. If I have not been in the enjoyment of spiritual things during the week, I am certainly going to be spiritually empty on Lord’s Day. You cannot expect to get water from a vessel that has not been previously filled.

The remedy of course is to fill our lives with Christ during each day of the week. This we do by reading our Bibles, spending time in meditation, and walking in the conscious sense of His presence with us. Then when we come together to remember Him in the breaking of bread, and to “offer the sacrifice of praise” (Hebrews 13:15), we will not appear before Him empty, but with full hearts overflowing with that which He is so worthy of.
