Dear Young Christian:

Today I read this quote by the Italian friar and preacher, Francis of Assisi (1181 or 1182-1226):

“It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless we preach as we walk.”

He makes a good point, and one we should always keep in mind. Wherever we are today, wherever we are going, and whatever we are doing, should be a testimony to the fact that we are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Remember, the world reads us even when we don’t say anything. Sad to say when we do open our mouths often it has little or no effect because our actions leading up to what we say do not always correspond or give weight to our words. It is our life that is often read and heard more than our speech.Paul in writing to the Corinthians said, “Ye areknown and read of all men” (2 Corinthians 3:2).

So, this week, wherever you walk, and wherever you have opportunity, in one way or another, either by deed or word, “preach Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:23).

Your Christian Friend,

Jim Hyland
