Breaking Bread

“Upon the first day of the weekthe disciples came together to break bread” (Acts 20:7).

As did the early believers, so we still have the privilege of gathering together in the Lord’s name on the first day of the week to commemorate the Lord’s death, till He come. In obedience to His command we give thanks and partake of two simple tokens:

The bread, the symbol of His body given. “And He took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is My body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of Me” (Luke 22:19).

The wine, reminding us of His precious blood shed for our redemption. “Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you” (Luke 22:20).

What a privilege is ours to be there, for our Lord Himself promises to be there in the midst of those that meet in obedience to His Word. The promise is, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them”
