Dear Young Christian: We are all prone to be critical. We need to remember that the Lord is listening. Miriam and Aaron forgot that the Lord could hear their bitter conversation! When they complained about their brother Moses. “And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses … And they said, Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? Hath he not spoken also by us? And the Lord heard it” (Numbers 12:1-2). As a result of their criticism, judgment fell upon them. To gossip or complain about another person or to say anything disparaging of someone should never be part of a believer’s conversation. The writer James has some very strong words to say on the matter. “Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge” (James 4:11). What will the Lord hear us say about others this week? Will it be words of kindness and love? Your Christian Friend, Jim Hyland We would love to hear from you. |
