At Peace

“When a man’s ways please the Lord, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him” (Proverbs 16:7).

This is a far-reaching statement, which is much less thought over than it should be. It allows for no exceptions. If your ways are pleasing to the Lord, your enemies will be unable to say one word against your character. They may hate you, but they are compelled to own that God is with you.

If your enemies are not at peace with you, it is time to ask, “Do my ways really please the Lord?” Doubtless you will soon be reminded of something in your life needing to be judged in His presence.

One thing that is very conducive to closing the mouths of enemies is just going on quietly through evil report and good report. Seeking to please the Lord and not wasting time in self-vindication. Like the Lord Himself, “Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously” (1 Peter 2:23).

Remember, a holy, humble walk in the presence of the Lord must silence even your worst enemies.
