Eternity
I have had several experiences in my life that have brought me close to the brink of eternity. I remember one such occasion several years ago, while driving on Interstate 55 through the state of Illinois. I know I shouldn’t have been doing it, but I was looking at a message on my cell phone while driving at about 65 miles an hour. When I looked up there was a van in front of me going considerably slower, and I was heading for a crash straight into its tailgate. I cranked the steering wheel and swerved into the other lane. Thankfully, there were no other vehicles close by as my van rocked back and forth, and I was able, by the mercies of the Lord, to bring it under control.
As I continued down the highway, I thanked the Lord for His preservation, and also the fact that, had I been killed, I knew where I would be. “Absent from the body … present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).
But what about you? If you are killed in a tragic accident today, where would you be? Are you ready for eternity? It is a reality. Can you say, “To die is gain” (Philippians 1:21)? If you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you are ready, and nothing can change that.
