Monthly Question Page

Q. Is Jesus our King, and is it proper to address Him as such? What about addressing God in such a way?

A. Jesus is indeed “King of kings, and Lord of lords” (1 Timothy 6:15), and in a coming day will be universally owned as such, according to Revelation 19:11-16. However, for us He is far more than our King, and we do not have a Scripture that would teach us to address Him in that way.

He is our “Bridegroom” (John 3:29).

He is our “Head” (Ephesians 5:23).

He is our “Savior” (Titus 3:6).

He is our “Lord” (Acts 9:6).

So then, it is not really intelligent for a Christian to address the Lord as “your majesty,” nor is He presented to us as our king. He is “The King of Israel” (John 1:49); “The King of the Jews” (Matthew 2:2); and the “King of Nations” (Revelation 15:3, JND).

As for God, the same applies. He is our Father, and we should address Him as such. “Our fellowship is with the Father” (1 John 1:3). To address God or the Lord Jesus as King is to lose the sense of nearness and intimacy that is rightfully ours.

We would love to hear from you.
