True Happiness

“That your joy may be full” (John 16:24).

It is the desire of God our Father that His children should be happy now, even in this world of sorrow and death. He has not only saved us from our sins, but He has “blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). Having done so, He now tells us, “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4).

We learn from this that the source of our happiness is the Lord Himself. The Bible also teaches that the secret of happiness is trusting and obeying. “Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:7-8). “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them” (John 13:17).

The measure of happiness we are entitled to is unlimited. The Lord wants us to have “full” joy. “These things write we unto you, that your joy may be full” (1 John 1:4). True and full happiness is found in Christ, not in things, and not in circumstances.
