Our Reaction

It has been stated that life is determined more by our reactions than our actions. Much of life comes to us without any action on our part. Circumstances are brought on without our asking or acting. It is then that our reaction counts. There are two ways that we can react.

Firstly, we can react in self-pity and frustration, with a woe-is-me attitude. This will only make us depressed and despondent, like Jeremiah who said, “Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it” (Jeremiah 10:19).

On the other hand, we can accept what comes our way realizing that it is all allowed of our loving, heavenly Father, and that it comes from His good hand with a purpose of love and blessing. This will cause us to react with spiritual courage and confidence and cause us to grow in the Lord. It will cause us to react to trouble and difficulty like the Apostle Paul who said, “Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10). What will your reactions be today? Will they be for the glory of the Lord and the blessing of others?
