Dear Young Christian,

Writing this letter as a cancer patient, I feel like someone’s pet dog…on a short leash. Hooked up to a pain-pump with a three-foot tube conveying hydro-morphine directly into my abdomen, I certainly can’t go very far without feeling the tug of distance and circumstance.

It has reminded me of the closeness and intimacy we have with God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. “Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:3).Thankfully (positionally speaking), that leash of communion cannot be broken, although (practically speaking) sometimes the reality of it is not always enjoyed.

Go forth this week in the joy of communion and you will be a happy Christian. Keep close to the Lord, talk often with Him, and listen to Him speak to you, as He delights to do.

When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!

John Henry Sammis

Your Christian Friend:

Jim Hyland
