“For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is able to succor [help] them that are tempted” (Hebrews 2:18).
We do not use the word “succor” much in everyday speech anymore, but it simply means to help or support others, especially when they are in trouble. During His time in this world, the Lord Jesus went through every kind of suffering that a sinless man could go through, so that He could understand and sympathize with us in our difficulties.
Perhaps you have been in trouble, and had a well-meaning friend say to you, “I know how you feel.” Yet, unless he or she has been through the same kind of trouble as you are experiencing, they cannot really know how you feel. But the Lord Jesus always knows how we feel, for He has suffered from the effects of sin in this world, and knows the difficulties we face. We can always go to Him in our troubles, knowing that He will understand.
