“My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise” (Psalm 57:7).

In the poem we had a couple of days ago, the second stanza referred to “the set of the soul,” comparing it to “the set of the sails” in the first stanza. As we saw yesterday, a ship with its sails set right can often sail against the wind. When David wrote today’s verse, he was running away from King Saul, who wanted to kill him. But his heart was fixed: he was going to trust the Lord and follow Him, whatever situation he was in.

Let us ask ourselves, What is the set of our soul? Are we ready to make a commitment to follow the Lord, or will we buckle under when difficult circumstances come into our lives? We cannot follow the Lord in our own strength, but we can do it in His strength.
