We are indebted to the Reformation for the recovery of the truth of salvation through faith alone and not works. Truly, the Reformation was a glorious light after the darkness of the ages that preceded it. Nevertheless, much teaching remained clouded by the prejudices of former thinking. It remained until the 1800's before the truth of justification was brought into the full light of Scripture. Nevertheless, even today, the most common teaching concerning justification is called the "Imputed Righteousness of Christ." Unfortunately, it confounds God's righteousness with righteous conduct in man, and the law becomes the measure of Christ's righteousness. In the Pauline doctrine of justification, I now stand before God in Christ, in all the blessedness of that position knowing that my sins have been forgiven, my guilt has been put away, and I have been judicially cleared from all the consequences connected with my former life; I am "justified in Christ" (Gal. 2:17 JND). The life I once had is altogether done with at the cross.

The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail. (1 Kings 17:14 )
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? … For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. (Matt. 6:31-32)
But God had long provided new sources of
    supply,
The morsel that should waste not, the cruse
    that should not dry;
When fails some brook of Cherith that long
    for us availed,
Do we recall His promise and think that
    too has failed?
Nay, He has other rivers whose waters will
    not dry;
His love is ever meeting new need with
    new supply.

Growing in Grace
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:21).
Do you ever wonder where we got our Bible? Those of us who live in western countries have become accustomed to having the Bible available to us in our own language, and often we take it for granted. But God has given us His Word, and preserved it to us, in a wonderful way. As we see in our verse today, Peter reminds us that the Word of God did not come to us by the will of man, but rather that “holy men of God” spoke as they were “moved (inspired) by the Holy Ghost.”
It is generally understood that Moses was the one who wrote the first five books of the Bible, often referred to as the Pentateuch, and thus he was the first inspired writer. The Apostle John was the last writer of the Bible, for he lived longer than any of the other apostles and did not die until about 100 A.D. Moses lived about 1500 B.C., so that the Bible was written over a period of about 1600 years. We do not know exactly how many different authors were involved in writing the various books in the Bible, but there were probably at least thirty-six, and possibly as many as forty.
God has carefully preserved His Word to us, in spite of the efforts of Satan to get rid of it. There are many old manuscripts available to us, and some of these date back thousands of years. In 1947 the so-called “Dead Sea Scrolls” were discovered in the land of Israel, and these are now some of the oldest Bible manuscripts that we have.
We can be most thankful for the Bible, for it is God’s Word addressed directly to us. It tells us plainly what we are, but it also tells us who God is. It reveals to us how this world came into existence, and when it will end. The Bible does not satisfy all our curiosity, but everything we need to know in order to be saved and to lead a godly life in this world is given to us in God’s Word.

Whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected. (1 John 2:5)
The God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.1
Hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.2 – If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.3 – Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.4 – Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.5

Comfort of the Scriptures
“Keep yourselves in the love of God” (Jude 21).
Our verse does not tell us to keep God loving us. Nothing can ever change or alter the glorious fact that He loves us. He tells us that “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee.” “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Nor does our text verse tell us that we are to love God, though certainly “we love Him, because He first loved us.” But, our verse says, we are to “keep [ourselves] in the love of God.” We are to keep ourselves in the spiritual condition that permits God’s love to work in our lives and enables us to enjoy that love. Our Lord said, “He that hath My commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him. ... If a man love Me, he will keep My words: and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him.” So we are called to “come out from among them, and be ye separate ... and I ... will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” Then “keep yourselves in the love of God,” remembering that His “love is strong as death.”
Do stay in the place of blessing;
Do keep yourself in God’s love;
Your life will be filled with goodness,
Sent down from the Father above.
