• {v.9-10} Reuben's energy to enlarge his borders is emphasized (1 Chron. 5:10); but it is no longer the virtue we have seen in Caleb, springing from faith alone. The display of Reuben's activity has a purely human and earthly motive: "Their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead" (1 Chron. 5:9).
