 After the tribute is paid, Hazael withdraws from Jerusalem. In our passage he reenters it and "executed judgment upon Joash" (2 Chron. 24:24). It is probable that between these two events, Joash had rebelled against the king of Syria, for here there is no mention of spoil, but rather of vengeance executed against the princes of the people and the king.
