Is not this the carpenter’s son?1 – Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?2 – Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?3 – He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.4 – We know that this man is a sinner.5 – He deceiveth the people.6 – This man blasphemeth.7 – Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners.8
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord.9 – This is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. … For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously.10 – If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye.11

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.1
I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: … I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.2
Speak; for thy servant heareth.3 – When Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.4 – I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.5

We spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.1
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.2 – Here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.3 – I am the Lord, I change not.4 – Our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.5 – The creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope.6
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.7 – Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.8

When I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.1 – I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.2
Woe is me! for I am undone; … mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: and he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.3 – I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.4
If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.5

Thou … hast made us unto our God kings and priests.1 – The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance forever throughout your generations. And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the Lord your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.2
I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain.3 – Their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.4 – The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.5 – Pray one for another, … The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.6
Come, Lord Jesus.7 – Make no tarrying, O my God.8 – Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God.9

It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!1 – Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.2 – Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?3 – Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross.4 – Of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, … to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.5
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.6

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.1 – As we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.2
The Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: … shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.3
Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.4 – He was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: after that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once.5
If the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.6

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.1
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.2 – There shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.3
The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. … The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.4 – The Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: he took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.5
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.6

My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.1 – I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.2
Wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business? And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.3 – This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. … Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?4
Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.5 – Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.6 – All bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.7
Thou art worthy … for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.8

Dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit.1
Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.2 – Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.3 – Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.4 – Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect.5
Every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.6
Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.7 – For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.8
