We ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.1 – Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.2
Job answered the Lord, and said, Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.3 – The Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?4
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.5 – David … to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will.6
I obtained mercy, … who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious.7
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.8

Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. … If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.1 – We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.2
When thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.3 – After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.4
Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.5 – Lord, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works in us.6

Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the Lord do that which is good in his sight.1 – We made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night.2
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.3 – If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God.4 – Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord.5
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.6 – Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.7 – Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord.8
Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not.9

It is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.1 – Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.2
Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.3
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.4 – Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning; and ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord.5

Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. … Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. … If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. … For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.2 – Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.3 – For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.4
The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.5 – I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.6

The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.1 – There is a spirit in man; and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.2 – The first man Adam was made a living soul.3 – The spirit of man that goeth upward.4
Whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord. … We are confident, … and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.5 – With Christ; which is far better.6 – I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.7
I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.8

It is sown in corruption; … it is sown in dishonor; … it is sown in weakness; … it is sown a natural body.1 – The first man is of the earth, earthy.2
Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.3 – One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. … And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure. They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.4
My flesh … shall rest in hope.5 – Though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.6 – The Lord Jesus Christ … shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.7
Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.8 – So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.9

The meekness and gentleness of Christ.1
A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench.2
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. … And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.3
And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.4
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.5

In the way of thy judgments, O Lord, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early.1
I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. … For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.2 – The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.3
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.4 – Our sufficiency is of God.5 – My grace is sufficient for thee.6

Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. … And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it. … So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone.1
There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. … Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy.2 – Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.3
I … glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.4
