Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.1 – Lord, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.2 – For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.3
Jacob said unto his household, … Let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.4 – Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.5
I love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I on the name of the Lord.6

Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory.1 – Lord, when saw we thee a hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?2 – In lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.3 – Be clothed with humility.4
[Jesus] was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.5 – All that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on [Stephen], saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.6 – The glory which thou gavest me I have given them.7 – We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.8
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.9

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it. … Love is strong as death.1 – Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.2
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.3 – In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.4
Ye are washed, … ye are sanctified, … ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.5 – Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.6 – I beseech you … brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.7

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.1 – In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.2 – Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.3 – Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity?4
All we like sheep have gone astray: we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.5 – He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.6 – The Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.7

Every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: but I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.1
Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.2
If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.3
Let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober.4 – Denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.5

He knoweth our frame.1 – He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.2
The foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honor, and some to dishonor. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.3
He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.4 – I … will refine them as silver is refined, … they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.5

The love of Christ, which passeth knowledge.1 – Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.2 – Ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.3 – Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.4 – Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.5 – Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.6 – For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.7 – Christ … suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.8
Ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.9 – We ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.10

O Lord our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.1 – We are thine: thou never barest rule over them; they were not called by thy name.2
All people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.3 – The Lord will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.4
O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.5 – Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God?6 – The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.7

Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.1
O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou art our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. Be not wroth very sore, O Lord, neither remember iniquity forever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.2 – Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the Lord my God. Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.3 – It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.4
Affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.5

Him that judgeth righteously.1 – We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.2 – Every one of us shall give account of himself to God.3 – The soul that sinneth, it shall die.4
Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd.5 – The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.6 – Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.7 – Mercy rejoiceth against judgment.8 – The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.9
A just God and a Savior; there is none beside me.10 – Just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.11 – Justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.12
