151. Lord Jesus! When We Think of Thee

C.M.
by J.G. Deck
1
Lord Jesus! when we think of Thee,

Of all Thy love and grace,

Our spirits long and fain would see

Thy beauty face to face.
2
And though the wilderness we tread,

A barren, thirsty ground,

With thorns and briers overspread,

Where foes and snares abound;
3
Yet in Thy love such depths we see,

Our souls o’erflow with praise —

Content ourselves, while, Lord, to Thee

A joyful song we raise.
4
Our Lord, our Life, our Rest, our Shield,

Our Rock, our Food, our Light;

Each thought of Thee doth constant yield

Unchanging, fresh delight.
“According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Ephesians 3:11)
“When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:4)
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
“Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield.” (Psalm 33:20)
“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” (1 Corinthians 10:4)
“For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.” (John 6:55)
“<<A Psalm of David.>> The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
5
Blest Savior, keep our spirits stayed,

Hard following after Thee,

Till we, in robes of white arrayed,

Thy face in glory see.
“The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen. <<The second epistle unto Timotheus, ordained the first bishop of the church of the Ephesians, was written from Rome, when Paul was brought before Nero the second time.>>.” (2 Timothy 4:22)
“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.” (1 Peter 2:21)
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.” (Revelation 7:9)
“Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.” (Revelation 3:4)
“And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.” (Revelation 22:4)
