292. Hark, the Glad Sound! the Savior Comes

C.M.
by P. Doddridge
1
Hark, the glad sound! the Savior comes!

The Savior promised long:

Take up the word, ye savèd saints,

Renew the gladsome song.
“Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.” (Revelation 22:7)
“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” (Revelation 22:12)
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3)
2
He comes! creation to release,

In Satan’s bondage held;

The tyrant’s thraldom to destroy,

And make th’ usurper yield.
“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” (Romans 8:22-23)
“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.” (Romans 16:20)
3
He comes! the mighty foe to bind,

The groaning earth to free,

While (chief of all His goodness gives)

Himself its Lord shall be.
“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.” (Romans 8:22)
“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” (Revelation 4:11)
4
Hosannas glad, Thou Prince of Peace,

Thy welcome shall proclaim;

And all creation shall rejoice

In Thy belovèd name.
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
