Abinadab

Boyd’s Bible Dictionary:

(father of nobility). (1) A Levite of Kirjath-jearim to whose house the ark was brought, and where it stayed for twenty years (1 Sam. 7:1-21And the men of Kirjath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the Lord. 2And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord. (1 Samuel 7:1‑2); 2 Sam. 6:3-43And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart. 4And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark. (2 Samuel 6:3‑4); 1 Chron. 13:77And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart. (1 Chronicles 13:7)). (2) Second son of Jesse, and One of the three who followed Saul to battle (1 Sam. 16:8; 17:138Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the Lord chosen this. (1 Samuel 16:8)
13And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. (1 Samuel 17:13)
). (3) Son of Saul slain at Gilboa (1 Sam. 31:22And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons. (1 Samuel 31:2); 1 Chron. 8:3333And Ner begat Kish, and Kish begat Saul, and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchi-shua, and Abinadab, and Esh-baal. (1 Chronicles 8:33)). (4) Father of one of the twelve chief officers of Solomon (1 Kings 4:1111The son of Abinadab, in all the region of Dor; which had Taphath the daughter of Solomon to wife: (1 Kings 4:11)).

Concise Bible Dictionary:

1. A man at Kirjath-jearim, at whose house the ark remained for many years after it had been returned by the Philistines. The twenty years referred to in 1 Samuel 7 no doubt give the time that elapsed before the repentance of Israel led them to lament after Jehovah. The ark abode in Abinadab’s house long after this, however, and was not removed till the early part of David’s reign (2 Sam. 6; 1 Chron. 13:77And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart. (1 Chronicles 13:7)).
