The Lord gives me the Holy Spirit, as His seal that I am redeemed and blessed, and belong to Him. The possession of the Spirit does not make me His, but it is the seal which shows that I am His. (Cornelius and His Household by W.T.P. Wolston)
Now it was declared to him that, according to the testimony of all the prophets, he who believed in Jesus received the remission of his sins. The Holy Spirit seals by His coming this truth received with simple faith into the hearts of Cornelius and his friends. The Holy Spirit is given then to the Gentiles, without their becoming Jews or being circumcised. (Meditations on Acts 10 by J.N. Darby)
At Pentecost the believing Jews had to be baptized before they received the gift of the Spirit. They must solemnly take the place of death with Christ to all they had previously trusted.... But the believing Gentiles as we see received the Holy Spirit while hearing the word, as most-perhaps all of us—have done; and baptism follows. Who could refuse the outward sign to the manifest recipients of that divine seal? (Psalm 45)
