29{i}Of the Jizharites, Chenaniah and his sons were over Israel, for the outward business for officers and judges.{/i}
30{i}Of the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, a thousand and seven hundred, for the administration of Israel on this side Jordan westward, for all the business of Jehovah, and for the service of the king.{/i}
31{i}Of the Hebronites was Jerijah the head; (as to the Hebronites, according to their families according to the fathers: in the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jaazer in Gilead;){/i}
32{i}and his brethren, men of valour, two thousand seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of the Manassites, for every matter pertaining to God, and the affairs of the king.{/i}
1Now the children of Israel, after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty-four thousand.
2{i}Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
3{i}He was of the children of Pherez, the head of all the captains of the hosts for the first month.{/i}
4{i}And over the division of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite; and in his division was Mikloth ruler; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
5{i}The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah (the son of Jehoiada, a principal officer): he was head; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
6{i}This Benaiah was a mighty man among the thirty, and above the thirty; and in his division was Ammizabad his son.{/i}
7{i}The fourth for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
8{i}The fifth for the fifth month was the captain Shamhuth the Jizrahite; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}

10{i}The seventh for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
11{i}The eighth for the eighth month was Sibbechai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
12{i}The ninth for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjaminites; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
13{i}The tenth for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
14{i}The eleventh for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
15{i}The twelfth for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel; and in his division were twenty-four thousand.{/i}
16{i}And over the tribes of Israel were: for the Reubenites Eliezer the son of Zichri was the prince; for the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah;{/i}
17{i}for the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; for Aaron, Zadok;{/i}
18{i}for Judah, Elihu of the brethren of David; for Issachar, Omri the son of Michael;{/i}
19{i}for Zebulun, Jishmaiah the son of Obadiah; for Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel;{/i}
20{i}for the children of Ephraim, Hosea the son of Azaziah; for the half tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah;{/i}
21{i}for the half tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Jiddo the son of Zechariah; for Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner;{/i}
22{i}for Dan, Azareel the son of Jeroham. These were the princes of the tribes of Israel.{/i}
23{i}And David took not their number from twenty years old and under; for Jehovah had said he would increase Israel as the stars of heaven.{/i}
24{i}Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he did not finish; and there fell wrath for it upon Israel; and the number was not put in the account of the chronicles of king David.{/i}
25{i}And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel; and over the storehouses in the country, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the towers was Jonathan the son of Uzziah.{/i}
26{i}And over them that worked in the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub.{/i}
27{i}And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; and over what was in the vineyards of stores of wine was Zabdi the Shiphmite:{/i}
28{i}and over the olive-trees and the sycamore-trees that were in the lowland was Baal-hanan the Gederite; and over the cellars of oil was Joash.{/i}
29{i}And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; and over the herds in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai.{/i}
30{i}And over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; and over the asses was Jehdiah the Meronothite.{/i}
31{i}And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagarite. All these were comptrollers of the substance which was king David's.{/i}
32{i}And Jonathan, David's uncle, was counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe; and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons;{/i}
33{i}and Ahithophel was the king's counsellor; and Hushai the Archite was the king's friend;{/i}
34{i}and after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar; and Joab was captain of the king's army.{/i}
1{i}And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the princes of the divisions that ministered to the king, and the captains over thousands, and the captains over hundreds, and the comptrollers of all the substance and possessions of the king and of his sons, with the chamberlains, and the mighty men, and all the men of valour, unto Jerusalem.{/i}
2{i}And king David stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren and my people!{/i} As for me, I had in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and for the footstool of our God, {i}and I have prepared to build{/i}.
3{i}But{/i} God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.
4Howbeit Jehovah, God of Israel, chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel;
5{i}and of all my sons, (for Jehovah has given me many sons,) he has chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of Jehovah over Israel{/i}.
6And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him {i}to be my son, and I will be his father{/i}.
7{i}And I will establish his kingdom forever, if he be firm to do my commandments and mine ordinances, as at this day.{/i}
8{i}And now in the sight of all Israel, the congregation of Jehovah, and in the audience of our God, —keep and seek for all the commandments of Jehovah your God; that ye may possess the good land, and leave it as an inheritance to your children after you forever.{/i}
9{i}And thou, Solomon my son, know the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for Jehovah searches all hearts, and discerns all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cut thee off forever.{/i}
10{i}Consider now, that Jehovah has chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.{/i}
11{i}And David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of its houses, and of its treasuries, and of its upper chambers, and of its inner chambers, and of the house of the mercy-seat;{/i}
12and the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit, of the courts of the house of Jehovah, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things;
13also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of Jehovah, and for all the vessels of service in the house of Jehovah,
14{i}gold by weight for things of gold, for all utensils of each kind of service; for all utensils of silver, by weight, for all utensils of each kind of service;{/i}
15{i}and the weight of the golden candlesticks, and of their golden lamps, by weight for every candlestick, and for its lamps; and for the silver candlesticks, by weight, for the candlestick and for its lamps, according to the use of every candlestick{/i};
16he gave by weight of the gold {i}for the tables of the loaves to be set in rows{/i}, for the various vessels, and the silver for those that were to be made of silver;
17also pure gold for the flesh-hooks and for the bowls, and the cups; {i}and for the golden basons by weight for every bason; and for the silver basons by weight for every bason;{/i}
18{i}and for the altar of incense, refined gold by weight; and the pattern of the chariot of the cherubim of gold, which spread out their wings and cover the ark of the covenant of Jehovah.{/i}
19All this (said David) Jehovah made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.
20{i}And David said to Solomon his son,{/i} Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for Jehovah God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work, for the service of the house of Jehovah.
21{i}And behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites are for all the service of the house of God; and thou hast with thee for all manner of workmanship every willing man, skilful for every sort of service; and the princes and all the people are wholly at thy commandment.{/i}
1{i}And king David said to all the congregation, Solomon my son, the one whom God has chosen, is young and tender, and the work is great; for this palace is not to be for man, but for Jehovah Elohim.{/i}
2Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God, the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things. of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.
3Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house:
4even, three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses withal;
5{i}gold for things of gold, and silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work by the hands of artificers. And{/i} who is willing to consecrate his service this day unto Jehovah?
6Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers, of the king's work, offered willingly,
7and gave for the service of the house of God, of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand drams, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.
8And they with whom precious stones were found, gave them to the treasure of the house of Jehovah, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to Jehovah: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
10Wherefore David blessed Jehovah before all the congregation, and David said, Blessed be thou, Jehovah God of Israel our father, forever and ever.
11Thine, O Jehovah, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Jehovah, and thou art exalted as head above all.
12Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
13Now therefore, our God, we thank thee and praise thy glorious name.
14But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
15For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.
16{i}Jehovah our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house to thy holy name, is of thy hand, and is all thine own.{/i}
17{i}And I know, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart have I willingly offered all these things; and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, offer willingly to thee.{/i}
18O Jehovah God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
19and give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, {i}and to do all, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.{/i}
20{i}And David said to all the congregation, Bless now Jehovah your God. And all the congregation blessed Jehovah the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and did homage to Jehovah and the king.{/i}
21{i}And they sacrificed sacrifices to Jehovah, and offered up burnt-offerings to Jehovah, on the morrow after that day:{/i} even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel:
22{i}and they{/i} did eat and drink before Jehovah on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king, the second time, {i}and anointed him to Jehovah to be prince, and Zadok to be priest.{/i}
23Then Solomon sat upon the throne of Jehovah as king, instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
24And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.
25And Jehovah magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
26Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
27And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.
28And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.
29{i}And the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer;{/i}
30{i}with all his reign and his might, and the times that passed over him, and over Isra{/i}el{i}, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.{/i}

 {v.36-37} David in his own generation served the counsel of God, but saw corruption: as did all his descendents, save that One of Whom he in the Spirit prophesied. Scripture cannot be broken. One man alone does and must fulfill the condition: who was He but Jesus, the Christ? (Acts 13:32-41 by W. Kelly)
