A solemn charge by one in authority to another to speak the truth under the obligation of an oath, as when Ahab adjured Micaiah (1 Kings 22:1616And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the Lord? (1 Kings 22:16)), and when the high priest adjured our Lord (Matt. 26:6363But Jesus held his peace.
