Title given to the Roman Emperors after Augustus Caesar, named in Luke 2:1¹And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (Luke 2:1). In Acts 25:21,25²¹But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar. (Acts 25:21)
²⁵But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him. (Acts 25:25) the Augustus or Caesar at that time was Nero.
