Confidence

JUD 15-16¹⁵To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. ¹⁶These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage. (Jude 15‑16)

My family is poor . . . , and I am the [youngest].

Judges 6:15¹⁵And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house. (Judges 6:15)

Surely I will be with thee.

Judges 6:16¹⁶And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man. (Judges 6:16)

Gideon had no confidence in himself or his family’s heritage. He was from a poor family and Gideon himself was the youngest son. But God needed him for a special work and so He gives him the wonderful confidence-booster in our second verse. It doesn’t matter who you are or what your family is like. If God wants to use you, He will give you the confidence to work for Him simply through the promise, “I will be with you.” Keep working!
