Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.1
O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou art our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. Be not wroth very sore, O Lord, neither remember iniquity forever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.2 – Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the Lord my God. Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.3 – It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.4
Affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.5

Him that judgeth righteously.1 – We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.2 – Every one of us shall give account of himself to God.3 – The soul that sinneth, it shall die.4
Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd.5 – The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.6 – Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.7 – Mercy rejoiceth against judgment.8 – The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.9
A just God and a Savior; there is none beside me.10 – Just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.11 – Justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.12

Now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.1 – We glory in tribulations: … knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope.2
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.3 – Ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.4 – Our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts.5

Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honor dwelleth.1 – A day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.2 – Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.3
The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.4 – Therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.5
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us; … let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience.6

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you.1 – If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.2
The Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.3
The Lord will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.4 – Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.5 – Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God.6
Shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily.7

As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.1 – For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?2
My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.3 – One pearl of great price.4 – The prince of the kings of the earth.5 – His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are bushy, and black as a raven.6 – The head over all things.7 – He is the head of the body, the church.8
His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers.9 – He could not be hid.10 – His lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh11 – Never man spake like this man.12 – His countenance is as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.13 – Make thy face to shine upon thy servant.14 – Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.15

Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.1 – Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.2
All things are yours; whether … the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; and ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.3 – All things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.4
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.5

Whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the Lord.1
Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, … but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord.2 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.3
What things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.4 – In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.5 – Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.6
Christ Jesus, … is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.7
He that winneth souls is wise.8

I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious.1 – He is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.2 – Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.3 – Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.4
By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.5 – Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.6 – Unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.7 – As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.8 – He giveth more grace.9
Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever.10

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.1 – It is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.2 – I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.3 – We have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.4 – How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand.5 – O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? … For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.6
