1. Eldest son of Japheth, and father of Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. Gomer is supposed to be the progenitor of the early Cimmerians who occupied the Tauric Chersonese, of which the name of the Crimea is a relic. In the 7th century they devastated the western part of Asia Minor (Gen. 10:2-3²The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. ³And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. (Genesis 10:2‑3); 1 Chron. 1:5-6⁵The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. ⁶And the sons of Gomer; Ashchenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. (1 Chronicles 1:5‑6); Eze. 38:6⁶Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. (Ezekiel 38:6)).

2. Daughter of Diblaim, and “wife” of Hosea (Hos. 1:3³So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son. (Hosea 1:3)).
