¹²For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us; and our iniquities, we know them:
¹³in transgressing and lying against Jehovah, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.
¹⁴And judgment is turned away backward, and righteousness standeth afar off; for truth stumbleth in the street, and uprightness cannot enter.
¹⁵And truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey. And Jehovah saw it, and it was evil in his sight that there was no judgment. (Isa. 59:2‑8,12‑15)

⁸Their tongue is a murderous arrow; it speaketh deceit. A man speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in his heart he layeth his ambush. (Jer. 9:2‑8)

Jer. 23:10‑14• ¹⁰For the land is full of adulterers; for because of execration the land mourneth. The pastures of the wilderness are dried up; for their course is evil, and their force is not right.

• As the first verse puts their state negatively, in the second we have the positive wickedness charged home with amazing energy....this in the land where Jehovah’s eyes rested continually, whence He had destroyed the former inhabitants because of their iniquities. (“Hosea 4” by W. Kelly)
