“Didactic,” or “melody

Title of thirteen Psalms.

Concise Bible Dictionary:

A Hebrew word occurring in the headings of several of the Psalms, 32, 42, 44, 45, 52-55, 74, 78, 88, 89 and 142. The word signifies “instruction,” and these Psalm convey instruction to the remnant, which they will understand. The same word in the plural (maschilim) signifies “the wise, or the instructed ones” (See Dan. 11:33, 35³³And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, many days. (Daniel 11:33)
³⁵And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed. (Daniel 11:35); Dan. 12:3, 10³And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12:3)
¹⁰Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand. (Daniel 12:10)). In the New Testament Christians are exhorted to be “teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Col. 3:16¹⁶Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Colossians 3:16)).
