1. The place where Jacob and Laban parted, after making a covenant and raising a heap of stones as a witness of the covenant and as a landmark between them. It was on the east of the Jordan, somewhere in Gilead (Gen. 31:4949And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another. (Genesis 31:49); Judg. 10:1717Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpeh.
