"Put on" : December 2000

Many people put on a fair show in the flesh. King David said, “Surely every man walketh in a vain show” (Psalm 39:66Surely every man walketh in a vain show: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them. (Psalm 39:6)). We are told, “Cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light,” and also, “Put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof” (Romans 13:12,1412The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. (Romans 13:12)
14But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. (Romans 13:14)). We must put off before we can put on. After David put off Saul’s armor (1 Samuel 17:3939And David girded his sword upon his armor, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him. (1 Samuel 17:39)), he was able to go forth and meet the enemy. There are quite a few things that Christians are exhorted to “put on” if we are to be good soldiers for the Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s open our Bibles and see if we can find some of them.
